  SAXOPHONE QUARTET

FROM TOLEDO

                The Toledo Saxophone Quartet was created with the aim of helping the expansion of the saxophone, and spreading all its musical possibilities, which are yet to be discovered. This quartet whose members began their musical studies at the Jacinto Guerrero conservatory in Toledo, has performed in the best concert halls, and has made multiple recordings for radio and television, with the simple purpose of making everyone aware of the importance of this instrument and especially this type of grouping.

Its repertoire covers a great diversity of works, originals or transcriptions, in order to cover the greatest number of composers, genres and periods. His repertoire begins in the Renaissance and continues through all ages to contemporary music and Jazz.

The quartet performs different concerts of all styles and spreads its music at different events, weddings, cocktails, entertainment, private parties ...

ALFREDO CARLAVILLA , soprano saxophone

                        

    JOSÉ GARCÍA, alto saxophone

He began his musical studies at the age of 9 in the Music Band of his town, Noblejas (Toledo). Later he moved to Toledo where he expanded his saxophone studies at the Jacinto Guerrero Conservatory with Professor Eloy Gracia, with whom he obtained the title of professor with the highest marks.

He has participated in numerous improvement courses, among which the teacher Daniel Deffayet stands out.

He has attended courses and master classes given by the distinguished Paquito de Rivera, Bobby Martínez, etc.

His love of music led him to belong to an orchestra for some years and to be part of a variety of instrumental groups: rock, Folk, etc.

In 2005 he participated with the Madrid Municipal Band in the Santa Cecilia Concert, with the baritone saxophone. In 2006 he collaborated with the Esperanza Macarena Band (Seville) playing during Holy Week. During the last three years he has played with the Jesús Nazareno de Rota (Seville) Band playing throughout the Cadiz region during Holy Week. He has also collaborated with municipal bands in the region: Ocaña, Villarrubia, Tarancón, Aranjuez, Toledo, Cádiz, etc.

During 2008 until 2010 he held the position of military musician at the Air Military Academy of Zaragoza, occupying the position of alto saxophone soloist in the military base group, performing a great variety of works in important cities of Spain (Barcelona, ​​León, Zaragoza, etc).

He is a member of the Toledo Symphonic Saxophonists Ensemble as a baritone whose direction is provided by Eloy Gracia, with whom he has traveled throughout the Spanish geography. He has made recordings for radio and television.

Currently he combines his work as Teacher of Music Education in English with participation in various big bands in the towns of Aranjuez and Pinto, perfecting his jazz training.

        

      MIGUEL ANGEL PANTOJA FRANCO , tenor saxophone

The saxophonist Miguel Ángel Pantoja was born in Toledo and at the age of seven began his studies of music theory and saxophone in the music band of his town (Añover de Tajo) under the guidance of its director D. Ramón Doblado and professor J. Antonio Prince.

He then continued his training at the “Jacinto Guerrero” Conservatory of Music in Toledo with Professor D. Eloy Gracia, where he obtained the title of professor of saxophone.

He has taken advanced courses in the saxophone technique with teachers of the stature of D. Daniel Deffayet and in the field of Jazz with renowned saxophonists of the stature of Bob Sands and Iñaki Arakistain.

In 1995 he became a founding member as tenor saxophone of the ensemble "Saxofonistas Sinfónicos de Toledo" with which he has traveled all over the Spanish geography and part abroad. He has also recorded different CDs with this group and has been directed by such prestigious conductors as Mr. Enrique García Asensio.

In 1998, parallel to his studies at the Conservatory, he began to study at the University of Castilla la Mancha the Diploma of Musical Teaching, graduating as a Teacher in 2001.

Throughout his musical career he has been a component of numerous groups such as duos, quartets and dance orchestras, performing concerts and performances throughout the Spanish geography.

At present he combines his concerts with different groups, with his teaching work at the Añover de Tajo Music School (as a saxophone teacher) and at the CEIP “Nuestra Señora de la Asunción” in Alameda de la Sagra where he occupies the position of Teacher of Music by opposition.

        ROBERTO SÁNCHEZ, baritone saxophone

Born in Madrid. When he was very young, his parents moved to Guadamur, their hometown. It is here, at a very early age and encouraged by his father, also a musician, where he began his musical career in the town band, at that time under the baton of D. León Mª González Ayuso.

 

Later, he passed through the Toledo Youth band and at 18 he entered as a Military Musician by opposition, occupying the Tenor Saxophone Plaza at the Toledo Infantry Academy under the command of then Captain Antonio Sendra Cebolla. He then entered the Jacinto Guerrero Conservatory of Toledo where he finished his studies of Solfeggio and Instrument Teacher in the specialty of Saxophone with D. Eloy Gracia. He continues under his direction as a member of the Ensemble "Toledo Symphonic Saxophonists", with which he has performed concerts throughout the Spanish geography and even trips abroad. This group has been directed by directors as distinguished as the teacher D. Enrique García Asensio. He also has to his credit attending a management course taught precisely by the latter in the city of Toledo.

 

His musical restlessness led him to belong to an orchestra for some years, he went through the “musicians workshop” in Madrid where he made contact with jazz music, and in 1993 he was a component and main architect of the “Scherzo Sax” saxophone quartet. In 2003 he formed together with three more saxophonists and a vocal soloist, the Vocal Musician-Quintet composed of a saxophone quartet and tenor voice.

 

Since 1995 he has taught music theory and instrument at the Santa Cecilia de Guadamur Musical Association, of which he was president for several years. After going through Bands Music schools such as the Municipal of Argés (Toledo) teaching, it is in the year 2000 and until 2004 that he will combine both his work as a teacher and that of Director of the “Santa Cecilia” Music Band of Bargas (Toledo). In the 2004-2005 academic year, he taught Music and Movement classes at the “Jose Luis Beinat” School of Arts in (Toledo).
